Great Reads for the Rest the Summer of 2024

July 28, 2024

August is coming and if you are like me you have been so busy that your summer reading list of great books remains untouched. With a month left you might be tempted to give up on it but I think you can yet achieve a sense of literary accomplishment with just two books.

A Gentleman in Moscow, by Amor Towles. This book was actually published in 2016 but recommended to me recently by a friend. The writing is amazing and the whole book is about finding happiness and purpose in the face of the most mundane life you can imagine. The story is a master class on 'mindfulness' written before it became the latest fad in pop psychology and tik tok videos. I highly recommend the audiobook which is voiced beautifully.

Fluke, by Brian Klaas.  "We can influence everything but control nothing." Professor Klaas shows us that our understanding of causation is woefully simplified and linear. There is a wonderful interview with the author here
